Overcrowded department stores. Shopping. Rush-hour traffic. Cooking. Cleaning. Yep, the holidays are upon us. Maybe you’re happy the season is here (or not!), but you might find yourself frustrated with your skin. What gives?

When we’re stressed, our bodies have a chemical response, causing all kinds of spikes in hormones that affect our skin. Basically, when you’re stressed out, so is your skin – making it more sensitive and reactive.

What happens exactly? Your body releases cortisol and other hormones that tell your sebaceous glands to produce more oil (great, right?) – thus causing a higher tendency to breakout.

Below, we offer tips to help deal with this season’s holiday stress and bring back your beautiful skin.

  1. Take Time (even if it’s just 10 minutes) For Yourself. Read your favorite book, take a bubble bath, and/or meditate. The proven benefits of meditation go a long way.
  2. Say No! Set limits and boundaries to give yourself a break. You’ve tried to do it all, but you know you can’t. Trust us: Once you say no to Aunt Sally the first time, it becomes a whole lot easier.
  3. Exercise Regularly. Exercise keeps your mind fresh and allows you to sweat out some of your body’s toxins. Read more about the beauty benefits of exercise, here.
  4. Get at Least 7-8 Hours of Sleep Each Night. It’s simple. Sleep helps recharge your body, making it more resilient to stress.
  5. Pamper Yourself. Getting a facial or massage releases tension. Another plus?  Routine facials/massages will help keep your skin fresh and glowing! See some of L’Arte Della Bellazza’s skin services here.
  6. Use Good Skincare Products. Products that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide – like Obagi’s Clenziderm Cleanser – help open pores to clear the skin of bacteria and acne.
  7. Adopt a Low Glycemic Diet. Cutting the empty carbs has proven to reduce acne flare-ups. Eat healthy foods like leafy greens, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats.
  8. Wear Sunscreen. Sun exposure can cause acne flare-ups and increase the signs of aging (yikes!). Wear sunscreen even in the winter.
  9. Keep Your Hands Away From Your Face. Bacteria from your hands can stimulate an acne outbreak, especially when you’re stressed.
  10. Exfoliate. Buffing away dead skin cells will allow the new skin to shine through, giving you a radiant complexion. Exfoliating regularly also helps keep pores clean.

Never neglect your skin, and this holds true especially when you’re feeling stressed. For more tips like those in this article, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Interested in learning more about our services?  Visit us at https://lartebellezza.com.

Summer Skincare Tips From L’Arte Della Bellezza

Posted on: May 7th, 2014 by L'Arte Della Bellezza

It’s time for shorts, bikinis and belinis! Protect the skin you’re in and take our advice when it comes to summer skin care. Below, L’Arte Della Bellezza offers tips on caring for skin during these hot and humid months.

#1 – Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!

Although a nice bronze can make you feel tight and toned, all that time roasting in the sun can have terrible, and sometimes deadly, side effects. The sun causes up to 80% of aging, so make sunblock your best friend! When choosing a sunscreen, opt for one that provides coverage against UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays. We recommend Obagi’s Nu Derm  Sun Shield.

#2 – Protect the Face, Décolleté and Hands

Beauty Fact: Your hands are the second place to show signs of aging. (Number one? Your eyes! See #3). Each morning, apply a layer of sunscreen with broad-spectrum UV protection to the back of your hands.  Another way to protect your face/neck: Invest in a trendy, wide-brim hat (like the one pictured, above).

#3 – Sunglasses, Sunglasses, Sunglasses!

They’re not only fashionable, they’re good for your health! Exposing your eyes to the sun could trigger a host of serious health problems, including painful sunburns and cataracts. In addition, sunglasses shield the delicate eye area from direct sunlight and protect against sunburn.  This article offers some great tips for purchasing a pair of shades.

#4 – Exfoliate + Moisturize

By exfoliating, you remove dead skin. Why exfoliate? It helps to prevent congestion (outbreaks) and improves hydration from toners and moisturizers. Always remember to follow with a hydrating body cream to lock in moisture.

#5 – Rid Your Life of Cellulite

Rid your life of dreaded cellulite! Opt for SlimLipo or other body contouring treatments like The Lumicell Wave 4. Did you know? SlimLipo safely removes fat on almost any area of your body, and the Lumicell Wave 4 is the only cellulite management system that combines four technologies to successfully target all cellulite-related problems.

#6 – Remove Unwanted Hair

Whether you opt for a one-piece or two-piece, the bikini line is going to be exposed!  And sometimes the necessary upkeep on said bikini line can have not-so-fun side effects (think ingrown hairs or painful waxing). Choose a more permanent procedure like laser hair removal and be forever rid of unwanted hair.

#6 – Snack on Citrus

Need a little detox? Lemons support your liver and kidneys, and there’s a clear connection between healthy organs and healthy skin. Vitamin C-rich foods – such as oranges and grapefruits – contain antioxidants, which help eliminate skin-aging free-radicals (caused by UV rays) and may help prevent wrinkles, too!
