Stressed out? Join the party. Although we all feel anxious and worn-out from time to time, there are many ways to counteract the feeling of wanting to scream at the top of your lungs.

Not all stress is bad, but overbearing pressure from life can lead to significant health problems. Adopting healthy lifestyle habits helps. Below, we’ve outlined positive practices you can develop to help deal with life’s negative moments.

Meditate

Meditation is a great way to relax when you’re under a lot of stress. Research has shown that meditation is helpful in lowering heart rate and blood pressure, and even improving cognitive performance. It’s also simple to do: just find a comfortable place, close your eyes, relax and focus on one thing. You can do this for as little as 10 minutes to experience benefits.

Pamper Yourself

Getting a facial or massage releases tension. Another plus?  Routine facials/massages will help keep your skin fresh and glowing! To increase relaxation, ask your aesthetician to add aromatherapy oils such as chamomile or lavender to your treatment.

Eat Mood-Enhancing Foods

It’s proven that junk food can make you depressed (not to mention fat!). Healthy nutrients like whole grains and protein can improve your mood and give you long-lasting energy. Foods effective for reducing stress include those high in omega-3 fats, like almonds and salmon. Drink coffee? Limit your intake. While studies have shown that some coffee during the day can offer health benefits, too much caffeine will make you jittery and can lead to a crash.

Exercise Daily

Working out is a natural stress reliever. Exercise helps to boost endorphins and reduce tension. And research shows that 20-30 minutes each day is all that’s needed to experience the benefits! For more reasons to work out, click here.

Head Outdoors

Get some sunshine! Did you know? Sunlight provides vitamin D, which promotes relaxation. Studies have also shown a connection between depression and vitamin D. So go soak up the sun (but don’t forget the sunscreen).

Disconnect

Turn off your phone! Cell phones stress you out, there’s no question about that. Too much talk and text can even raise your blood pressure. Sometimes we all need a break from being “connected.” Designate a time each day when you aren’t on-call and power off.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is the most important stress reducer of them all. Too little sleep leaves us cranky and on edge. Too much sleep can leave us sluggish and depressed. Try to find the right balance that leaves you feeling well rested and ready for the day.
